PIP implant victims 'happy' to win compensation

Thousands of women victims of PIP breast implant scandal should be compensated, a French appeals court has ruled.

The women involved in the case say they are happy and tired after 10 years of fighting for justice.

The court also upheld an earlier ruling disregarding the German security agency TUV Reinland.

TUV said it had acted "relentlessly" and would have to prove the PIP implantation in order for women to have the right to compensation.

It provides protection certificates for defective breast transplants made by the French company Poly Implant Prometheus (PIP).

The court's decision could have far-reaching implications for thousands of victims around the world

Jan Spivi, one of the 540 British women involved in the case, underwent a PIP transplant after a mastectomy due to breast cancer.

After hearing the verdict, he said he was "delighted and tired."

“It’s been a very long journey,” he said.

"We were out and about in court, and it was really hard for women. We had health problems and we had a lot of other responsibilities - PIP affected our whole lives.

"This has become an inevitable problem."
